As part of The Met Astor Educator Fellowship my lucky 5th graders get to go on 4 field trips to The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This trip students visited European Arms and Armor, Japanese Arms and Armor, and the Egyptian Galleries. My students discussed their observations, inferences, and interpretations, as well as created art in response to the objects seen.
Students in the 3rd grade hand painted paper experimenting with analogous colors creating warm and cool color paintings. Inspired by Eric Carle, using these painted papers students created owl collages.
Inspired by abstract art from Kandinsky, and Matisse students created abstract background featuring geometric and organic shapes, different lines, and bold background colors. Student experimented with mixing secondary colors, collaged shapes and lines, and drew an abstracted figure in a unique pose.
